Nitin Gupta broke the three-year-old national record, set at the same competition.

Uttar Pradesh’s Nitin Gupta broke the national record in the men’s 10000m Race Walk event at the U20 Junior National Athletics Championships 2025 on Monday, June 23. He clocked a time of 39:46.78 seconds to set a new national record, surpassing Amit Khatri’s 40:40.97 seconds, which was set during the 2021 edition of the U20 Junior National Athletics Championships.

The Bhopal-born athlete’s national record of 40:40.97 seconds was also the meet record, which Nitin broke on Monday. The new junior National Record holder was shy of the senior National Record, currently held by Sandeep Kumar (38:49.21), which was set during the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Uttarakhand’s Himanshu Kumar and Himanshu Panwar won the silver and bronze medals, clocking a time of 42:05.92s and 42:21.33s, respectively. 35 athletes were expected to compete in the men’s 10000m Racewalk final. However, 31 athletes started the race and only 21 finished it.

Two racers from Delhi and one each from Haryana and Bihar did not start the race. Meanwhile, four athletes from Uttarakhand, two from Rajasthan and one each from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Haryana and the junior camp failed to complete the race.
