This is the first European Diamond League of the season.
A star-studded lineup of track and field’s biggest names will take center stage at Oslo Diamond League 2024 in Norway on Thursday, as the Wanda Diamond League makes its annual stop in the Norwegian capital.
Headlining the action are home country heroes Karsten Warholm and Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Warholm, the world record-holder and two-time Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles kicks off his 2024 Diamond League campaign on home soil. He’ll face stiff competition from Brazil’s Alison dos Santos, the reigning world and Diamond League champion.
Ingebrigtsen, the Olympic 1500m gold medalist, returns to the Bislett Games where he clocked 3:27.95 last year. The Norwegian star takes on a loaded field featuring 2019 world champion Timothy Cheruiyot and world bronze medalist compatriot Narve Gilje Nordas.
World record-holder Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda leads an incredibly deep 5000m field that includes Olympic medalist Hagos Gebrhiwet and a trio of Ethiopians – Yomif Kejelcha, Samuel Tefera, and Biniam Mehary.
The sprints take center stage as well with Jamaican star Shericka Jackson, the world 200m champion, squaring off against American Jenna Prandini and Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou. In the men’s 100m, Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs faces a challenge from South African Akani Simbine.
The field events are similarly stacked, highlighted by a discus duel between reigning world champion Kristjan Ceh and new world record holder Mykolas Alekna fresh off his 74.35m heave last month.
