Chopra sustained injury while training.
Reigning Olympic javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming 63rd Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet in Czechia due to an injury sustained in training two weeks ago. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28th.
In a statement released by the organizers, they confirmed, “Due to an injury that he sustained in training two weeks ago (Adductor muscle), he will not be able to throw in Ostrava.” However, Chopra is still expected to attend the meet despite not competing.
The 26-year-old Indian star was slated to make his third competitive appearance of the 2024 season at the Golden Spike after previously throwing 88.36m to finish second at the Doha Diamond League on May 10th and winning gold with an 82.27m effort at India’s Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar earlier this month.
With Chopra’s withdrawal, European champion Julian Weber of Germany will replace him in the javelin field in Ostrava. Last year’s Golden Spike winner was Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia with a modest 81.93m throw.

This injury setback is unfortunately familiar territory for the Indian champion, who was also forced to miss last year’s Ostrava meet due to a muscle injury.
However, Chopra is still expected to compete next at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on June 18th as he continues preparations to defend his Olympic title at the Paris 2024 Games later this year.
The Ostrava Golden Spike is an annual World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event first held in 1961. Previously part of the IAAF Grand Prix circuit from 2003-2009, it is one of the highly regarded track and field competitions on the European athletics calendar held at the Mestsky Stadion in Ostrava.
Adductor Muscles: Overview
The adductor muscles are a group of five muscles located in the inner thigh region. They include the pectineus, adductor brevis, adductor longus, gracilis, and adductor magnus.
These muscles primarily function to adduct the thigh, bringing the leg inward toward the midline of the body. Additionally, some adductors assist in hip flexion and medial rotation of the thigh.
The gracilis muscle also crosses the knee joint and aids in knee flexion and medial rotation of the lower leg. Collectively, the adductor muscles play a crucial role in stabilizing the pelvis during activities like walking and standing, working in coordination with the abductor muscles on the opposing side of the hip.
