There will be 29 athletes from the Indian contigent who will be competing in track and field events.

Few days ago, World Athletics had unveiled the roster of athletes who secured spots in the Paris Olympics 2024 through both automatic qualification and rankings.

The athletics qualification period for Paris Olympics 2024 concluded on June 30th with World Athletics officially confirming the final Road to Paris 2024 standings.

Athletes could secure quotas for Paris Olympics 2024 for their countries either by meeting the entry standards for their events or by finishing within the cutoff in the Road to Paris rankings after the qualification window is closed.

Parul Chaudhary clinched a quota by ranking 34th in the women’s 5000m event which had a cut-off of 42, and meeting the 3000m steeplechase qualification standard. She is one of three Indian athletes to qualify for two events at Paris Olympics 2024.

Priyanka Goswami and Kiran Pahal are the other two athletes who have qualified in two events at Paris Olympics 2024. Goswami will be competing in women’s 20km racewalk and marathon mixed relay. Meanwhile, Pahal will be seen during the women’s 400m and 4x400m relaly.

Javelin thrower Annu Rani ranked 21st in the Road to Paris rankings, securing her spot among the top 32 athletes qualifying for the Summer Games. Similarly, Jyothi Yarraji, holding the 34th position in women’s 100m hurdles made the cut-off of 40. Both athletes are national record holders in their events.

In men’s triple jump, Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chithravel made the 32-man cut with rankings of 21st and 23rd, respectively. Sarvesh Kushare secured a quota in men’s high jump by finishing 23rd in a cut-off list of 32.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time Asian champion in men’s shot put earned the Paris Olympics 2024 quota by ranking 23rd in his discipline.

Suraj Panwar also qualified in men’s 20km race walk through Road to Paris rankings while Akshdeep Singh, Paramjeet Singh Bisht and Vikash Singh met the event’s entry standard.

DP Manu was on road to secure a spot as the third Indian athlete in men’s javelin throw following Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena’s qualifications at last year’s Asian Games. But he has now been provisionally suspended for doping.

Since Murali Sreeshankar, who qualified for the Olympics by entry standard will not compete due to a knee injury, compatriot Jeswin Aldrin securd the Olympic berth via World Rankings.

The decision was confirmed by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) in selecting from those who have qualified through the world ranking quota. National Olympic Committees notified World Athletics (WA) of their intention to decline a quota.

Between July 4 and 6, WA reallocated the declined quota places to the next highest-ranked athlete in the same event with the final list being published on July 7. Thus, Aldrin was able to make the trip to Paris Olympics 2024.
