DP Manu was on road to secure a spot as the third Indian athlete in men’s javelin throw following Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena’s qualifications at last year’s Asian Games. But he has now been provisionally suspended for doping.
Since Murali Sreeshankar, who qualified for the Olympics by entry standard will not compete due to a knee injury, compatriot Jeswin Aldrin securd the Olympic berth via World Rankings.
The decision was confirmed by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) in selecting from those who have qualified through the world ranking quota. National Olympic Committees notified World Athletics (WA) of their intention to decline a quota.
Between July 4 and 6, WA reallocated the declined quota places to the next highest-ranked athlete in the same event with the final list being published on July 7. Thus, Aldrin was able to make the trip to Paris Olympics 2024.
