Neeraj Chopra only needed a single attempt to finish first in the qualification round.

The Paris Olympics 2024 will again see Neeraj Chopra in action in the men’s Javelin throw final. The defending Olympic champion had impressed the fans at Stade de France during the qualification round. He is expected to successfully defend his title without major hassles.

Neeraj Chopra did not face any trouble during the qualification round and in fact recorded his season best throw of 89.34m. It was only behind his career best throw of 89.94m which had come in the 2022 Stockholm Diamond League. It is also the national record in the event. Chopra eased through the qualification round with a comfortable lead.

The 26-year-old was far ahead of his rivals in group B. Anderson Peters and Arshad Nadeem also managed to qualify with a single throw and recorded their season best performances. Meanwhile in group A, Julian Weber finished on top with a throw of 87.76m and Julius Yego came in second place.

Yego recorded his season best throw of 85.97m in his first attempt. The biggest shock came in group B as Max Dehning could not qualify for the final. The 19-year-old was a major contender and was hoping to challenge Neeraj Chopra but ended up 22nd with a best throw of 79.24m.

Chopra will now compete with familiar faces in the final. Among the 12 finalists, only Jakub Vadlejch, Yego, Peters, Nadeem and Keshorn Walcott have managed to breach the 90m mark in their careers. But Chopra has the advantage of being in form right now and his ability to perform better as the stakes go high places him on the top.

Neeraj Chopra will look to win gold by breaching the 90m mark for the first time in his career. Paris Olympics 2024 has already seen world records and personal achievements on track and field events.

The Indian legend could become the fifth athlete to win consecutive Olympic gold medals in men’s Javelin throw. Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway was the last man to win golds in consecutive editions of the Olympics in men’s javelin throw.
