Emmanouil Karalis secured a bronze medal in the men’s pole vault event at the Paris Olympics with his jump of 5.90m. He has had podium finishes in over 90% of the competitions in 2025.

Karalis has finished second in his last two competitions—Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix (6.02m) and the Silesia Diamond League (6.00m). With Armand Duplantis not participating in Lausanne, the Greek athlete is expected to finish first in the meeting.

Russell recently etched her name into the history books by clocking a timing of 12.19s and winning the Silesia Diamond League. With this performance, she registered a Diamond League record and the joint-third fastest time in history.

Interestingly, Masai Russell produced her personal best of 12.17s in Miami to set a new American record and the second-fastest time in history. With her record-breaking performances this year, she is one of the athletes to watch out for in Lausanne.

Shericka Jackson is the reigning world champion in women’s 200m event. With podium finishes in all three events where she competed in the 200m events, Jackson enters the Lausanne Diamond League 2025 with supreme confidence.

The 31-year-old finished first in Silesia with a timing of 22.17s, while also registering her season’s best. The Jamaican star will look to find her best form ahead of the World Athletics Championships, where she could become only the second woman to clinch three consecutive 200m world titles.

#2 Emmanuel Wanyonyi (Men’s 800m)

Emmanuel Wanyonyi has been a standout performer in 2025. He has finished first in the Diamond League meetings in Oslo, Stockholm, Monaco, and London.

Wanyonyi produced his season’s best performance in Monaco last month, completing the 800m race in 1:41.44s. The Kenyan athlete returned with his career-best timing of 1:41.11 at the same venue last year, which is the third-fastest time in history.

Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson beat USA’s Noah Lyles in the men’s 100m event of the Silesia Diamond League on August 16. He finished first with a timing of 9.87s, while Lyles clocked 9.90s and came second.

Thompson also won silver at Paris Olympics with a time of 9.79s. He fell short by just five-thousandths of a second to Lyles, who won the gold medal by completing the race in 9.79s as well.

Their rivalry will be a must-see event for fans in Lausanne, as the two champion athletes try to get their winning momentum ahead of the World Athletics Championships.
