The meet will bring 11 Olympic champions under one roof.

Rome Diamond League 2025 will be held on Friday, June 6, at the Stadio Olimpico. The numbers don’t lie; the event will feature 11 Olympic champions, 15 Diamond League title holders, and 62 Olympic and world medallists across 14 sports.

To put things into perspective, some sports will bring the heavyweight drama. Take shotput, for example, which will deliver the heavyweight battle. World champion Joe Kovacs leads a field featuring eight of the world’s top ten throwers. With world record holder Ryan Crouser sidelined by injury, the door swings open.

Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri, the defending Diamond Trophy champion, and Zane Weir, fresh off a 21.84m throw, hunt home glory against Payton Otterdahl, who owns 2025’s world lead of 21.97m.

The men’s 1500m returns to sacred ground. This is where Hicham El Guerrouj’s 3:26.00 world record has stood untouched since 1998. This year, Timothy Cheruiyot, the 2018 Golden Gala winner and world champion, faces Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who carries this year’s world-leading 3:29.63.

The women’s 5000m makes its Golden Gala comeback after eight years, and it would do so in style with Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay (world record holder of 14:00.21) facing Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet, Paris Olympics gold medalist, who is fresh from the second-fastest 3000m of 8:11.56, run just weeks ago in Rabat. Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, who finished fourth in Paris, will complete the trilogy.

Which Indians are participating in the Rome Diamond League 2025?

No Indian athlete will be competing at the Rome Diamond League 2025, as per the confirmed entry list.

Athletes to watch out for at the Rome Diamond League 2025

There will be plenty of showmen who will light up the ‘city of seven hills.’ But there are a few whom you can’t take your eyes off.

Starting with Quincy Hall. A year ago, he wasn’t even considered a medal favourite, but in Paris, he stormed the back stretch of the 400m final like a man possessed. He crossed the line in 43.40 seconds, which was the fourth fastest in history. This season has been quieter, with eight in Shanghai and third in Rabat.

But no one forgets how he chased down Olympic gold in that final 100 meters. Can he summon that fire again in Rome? With Kirani James and Vernon Norwood in the mix, he’ll need it.

Valarie Allman would be another one that demands attention at Stadio Olimpico because we are here talking about the thrower who recently broke the American discus record with 73.52m in Oklahoma this April; she threw the farthest distance in 35 years.

No one else in Rome has that kind of power. Four straight Diamond League titles. Two Olympic golds. But it’s not just stats; it’s how she throws. Graceful. Controlled. Brutal. Sandra Elkasević and Feng Bin will challenge, but they’re entering her arena. Right now, Allman is untouchable.

Italy will have their showman as well, and it is none other than Gianmarco Tamberi, the high jumper who leaps with one sock rolled down and a nation’s hopes rolled up in his runway swagger.

Olympic champion (Tokyo Gold). World champion (2023), Budapest. Rome is his home, but it won’t be a victory lap; he will get tough competition from Hamish Kerr, the same man who won gold in Paris. Tamberi doesn’t forget moments like that.
