No Indian will be featuring in the inaugural edition of the World Athletics Ultimate Championships
For decades, the World Championships has been the sport’s marquee event, spread across more than a week of heats, semis and finals. The World Athletics Ultimate Championships 2026 throws that formula out entirely.
Conceived as a biennial tournament for years, when the marquee event is not happening, it strips athletics down to its purest form, competing across a handful of high-stakes sessions built specifically for a television audience.
A total prize purse of $10 million (₹95.62 crore) is up for grabs, and every single event winner walks away with a massive payday of $150,000. Fields are kept deliberately small too, capped at 16 entrants for track events and eight for field events.

Every athlete on the start list earned their place, either through Olympic gold, World Championships gold, or a Diamond League final win. There are no high standards to chase or discretionary selections to argue over. The result is a stacked field from top to bottom, spanning 28 events across 16 disciplines.
Some of the high-profile names featuring include Armand Duplantis, Faith Kipyegon, Letsile Tebogo, Keely Hodgkinson, Audrey Werro, Femke Broeders-Bol, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Grant Holloway.

Where and when will World Athletics Ultimate Championships 2026 take place?
The inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships will take place at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary, from September 11-13. It will feature 28 events across three evening sessions.
