The Xiamen Diamond League 2025 will be held on Saturday, 26 April in Xiamen, China.
The Diamond League 2025 season will begin on April 26 in Xiamen, China, featuring 14 track and field events. Athletes will gather points at each meet, with the season ending in Brussels on 22 August. The players with the highest scores will qualify for the two-day Diamond League Final to be held in Zurich, Switzerland, on August 27-28.
Indians to participate in Xiamen Diamond League 2025
On Saturday, Avinash Sable will take part in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the 2025 Xiamen Diamond League in China. As India’s most successful steeplechaser, Sable holds the national record for the 3000m steeplechase at 8:09.91 set at the Paris Diamond League in July 2024.
This race will be his first of the 2025 athletics season following his last appearance at the Diamond League Final in Brussels in September. Two years ago, Sable competed in Xiamen and finished fifth with an 8:16.27 time.
This performance earned him a place in the Diamond League final, which he later skipped to focus on the Asian Games, where he won a historic gold medal.
Athletes to watch out for at the Xiamen Diamond League 2025
The Xiamen Diamond League 2025 is set to light up Egret Stadium with some of the biggest names in track and field returning to action. Leading the charge is Mondo Duplantis, who has had an incredible indoor season. The Swedish pole vault sensation will return to China with his sights set on clearing 6.27m and securing a historic 12th world record.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh is one to watch after a record-breaking 2024 season in the high jump. The Ukrainian star shattered a 37-year-old record with a 2.10m jump and clinched Olympic gold in Paris. Leading US hurdler and reigning Olympic champion Grant Holloway will try to make history as he aims to challenge Aries Merritt’s world record of 12.80 seconds in the 110m hurdles.
The men’s 100m promises fireworks with South Africa’s Akani Simbine entering as the favourite, thanks to his world-leading 9.90s time. He’ll face stiff competition from Letsile Tebogo, Christian Coleman, and Ferdinand Omanyala.
Middle-distance legend Faith Kipyegon, holder of the 1500m world record and a three-time Olympic champion, will headline the 1000m in her season debut.
Karsten Warholm of Norway is set to open his outdoor campaign in the 300m hurdles. The Olympic champion and world record holder boasts the fastest time ever run over the distance at 33.26 seconds.
The women’s sprints will be just as thrilling with Shericka Jackson, Jamaica’s double 200m world champion, taking on Twanisha Terry, the 4x100m Olympic gold medallist, and Mujinga Kambundji, the reigning world indoor champion.
In the distance events, Kenya’s double Olympic gold medallist Faith Chebet will begin her 5000m season against world champion Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia in what promises to be a clash of titans.
Also look out for standout performances from Valarie Allman in the discus and Soufiane El Bakkali in the steeplechase as Xiamen kicks off the Diamond League season in spectacular style.
