Several Indian athletes will miss the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships 2025 due to injuries.

The much-awaited National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships 2025 will commence on August 20 and conclude on August 24. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will host the action-packed five-day competition between top athletes in the country.

Prominent athletes such as Murali Sreeshankar, Animesh Kujur, and Annu Rani will compete in the 64th edition of the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships.

With crucial Road to Tokyo points on the line, many of them will look to deliver their best to punch their ticket to the World Athletics Championships.

However, a few Indian track and field stars will miss the event due to unforeseen reasons or because they are focusing on other tournaments. Here we take a look at the top five athletes who will miss the Senior Athletics Championships 2025.

5. Avinash Sable

Avinash Sable underwent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery and a meniscus injury on his right knee in Mumbai last month. He sustained an injury during the Monaco Diamond League meeting on July 11. Sable limped off the track, grimacing in pain, and received immediate medical attention.

Such surgeries require a lengthy rehabilitation process, which could keep Sable sidelined for around six months.

Avinash Sable holds the national record in the men’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:09.91, which he achieved during the Paris Diamond League meeting last year.

4. Kishore Jena

The 2022 Asian Games silver medalist, Kishore Jena, will be unavailable for the tournament due to an ankle injury. He has managed a podium finish in only one of the four tournaments this year.

The javelin star’s last appearance came at the Kip Keino Classic in May 2025, where he finished 10th with a throw of 73.06m. With an injury and 65th rank in the Road to Tokyo, he will not be able to participate in the World Athletics Championships.

3. Nithya Ramraj

Nithya Ramraj suffered a fractured left ankle during the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet in Bhubaneswar on August 10. Ramraj was leading the 100m hurdles at one point, but she collapsed midway and could not continue the race. As a result, her 2025 season has come to an end.

The 26-year-old was going through a terrific 2025, with podium finishes in all seven events. She finished first in the Indian Grand Prix – 2 and the Indian Grand Prix – 3 events.

2. Jeswin Aldrin

Long jumper Jeswin Aldrin has been ruled out of not only the tournament but also the entire season due to an undisclosed injury. According to NNIS Sports, he will undergo surgery at Aspetar Hospital in Doha.

Notably, Aldrin was last seen in action in the FISU World University Games in July. He finished 18th in the qualification round with a jump of 7.43m. Earlier, he suffered a hamstring injury at the Indian Open athletics meet in April.

Jeswin Aldrin’s season-best performance of 7.83m came in the 28th National Federation Senior Athletics Championships in April.

Gulveer Singh has decided to skip the event, as he intends to focus on the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. He has been training in Colorado Springs for the last six months with the famous coach, Scott Simmons.

Gulveer was last seen in action at the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix in Budapest on August 12. With a timing of 7:34.49, he finished fifth in the 3000m event.

It is worth noting that Gulveer Singh has already qualified in the 5000m event of the World Athletics Championships.

Moreover, Jyothi Yarraji (knee injury) and Ancy Sojan (muscle strain) also ended their 2025 season prematurely due to long-term injuries.
