Fans hail 'consistent king' Neeraj Chopra after title win at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 meet

Despite an average throw, India’s ace javelin star scripted history by winning gold.
Just a few days after his triumph at the Paris Diamond League event, Neeraj Chopra bagged yet another gold medal, this time at the Městský Stadion in Ostrava-Vítkovice, Czech Republic. Neeraj began his campaign with a foul on his first attempt, before landing a solid 83.45m throw in his second.
The 27-year-old followed it up with his best effort of the evening, an impressive 85.29m in the third round. Chopra then recorded throws of 82.17m and 81.01m in his next two attempts, before concluding the event with another foul.
Douw Smit from South Africa delivered a personal best of 84.12m in the second attempt to take home silver, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters finished third with a throw of 83.63m. Neeraj did not have the outing he had desired due to the high standards he had set for himself, but it was enough to finish at the top of the charts.
Previously, in his Diamond League season opener in Doha, Neeraj Chopra breached the 90m barrier for the first time, recording a personal best of 90.23m, thereby surpassing his previous mark of 89.94m. However, despite the career milestone, he had to settle for second place behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who claimed victory with a world-leading 91.06m—his first-ever throw beyond 90m.
Chopra, however, turned the tables on his German rival in Paris, producing an impressive opening throw of 88.16m to top the field and clinch victory ahead of Julian Weber. Despite a high-octane test cricket match between India and England taking place simultaneously, fans across India tuned in to witness Neeraj Chopra’s brilliance, highlighting the spotlight he commands nationwide.
