A 21-member Indian contingent will participate in the event.

The World Athletics Relays 2026, a major event on the global athletics calendar, will take place in Botswana on May 2 and 3. The event also carries extra significance as it will be held on the African continent for the first time.

The 40 federations in contention will not only compete for medals in the relay events but will also be eyeing qualification spots, with the event serving as a pathway to the World Athletics Ultimate Championships 2026 and the World Athletics Championships 2027.

The competition will feature six events—the men’s, women’s and mixed 4x100m and the men’s, women’s and mixed 4x400m, with many top teams set to compete.

Jamaica have signaled their intent for the competition by naming a strong squad for the men’s, women’s and mixed 4x100m relays, with world and Olympic medalists including Shericka Jackson, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Tina Clayton, Kishane Thompson, Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake.

The United States is sending a new-look team, led by Jada Mowatt and Ronnie Baker as captains. In the absence of big names like Noah Lyles, Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson, Courtney Lindsey, Kyree King and Bryce Deadmon will headline the contingent.

Letsile Tebogo, Akani Simbine, Andre De Grasse, Zharnel Hughes, Ferdinand Omanyala and Lieke Klaver are among the other prominent names set to feature at the World Relays.

Meanwhile, India has sent a 21-member team for the World Relays and will compete in five categories, excluding the women’s 4x400m relay. Among the top Indian athletes competing at the event are Animesh Kujur, Gurindervir Singh and Rajesh Ramesh.

When & where will World Athletics Relays 2026 take place?

The World Athletics Relays 2026 is being staged at the National Stadium in Botswana on May 2 and 3. While the heats are taking place on May 2, the repechage and final rounds will be held on May 3.

Day 1 events will begin at 2:05 PM (Central Africa Time, CAT) or 5:35 PM (Indian Standard Time, IST), with the mixed 4x100m heats as the first event of the day.

Meanwhile, Day 2 will begin at 2:02 PM (CAT) or 5:32 PM (IST), with the repechage round of the mixed 4x100m, and will end with the men’s 4x400m final at 4:51 PM (CAT) or 8:21 PM (IST).

In the United States, Peacock will provide live streaming of the event, while NBCSN will broadcast it live. BBC iPlayer and Eurovision Sport will provide live streaming coverage of the tournament.

The host nation, Botswana, will also have BTV, SuperSport serving live telecasts, in addition to Eurovision Sport. SuperSport and Eurovision Sport serve as the streaming providers in Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Ethiopia, Uganda and other African nations. 

Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Turkey, Poland and several other European nations will also have Eurosport as the broadcast provider.
