Asian Games medallist Harmilan Bains is set to make an appearance on MTV Roadies, stepping away from the track for one of Indian television’s best-known reality shows. Bains is a two-time Asian Games silver medallist and the 2024 Asian Indoor champion.
The 28-year-old comes from a family of athletes. She was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, in 1998. Her mother, Madhuri Saxena, had won silver in the 800m race at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.
At the 2021 National Open Championships, Bains had smashed Sunita Rani’s 1500m national record (at the time) with 4:05.39. At the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, she won silver in the 800m, just as her mother had done, and added another silver in the 1500m.
Her career has been hit by frequent injuries. Harmilan returned to the field after two years away, finishing third in her 10,000m debut in Pune. Despite her impressive return, the pain resurfaced for the Indian athlete, which forced her to extend her stay away from action.
Roadies Rebirth, the 21st edition, is set to premiere on October 16 and will air every Friday and Saturday at 7 PM on JioHotstar and MTV. Rannvijay Singha returns as host. The Indian athlete confirmed her participation as a contestant in the show on Threads.
The show sends contestants through physical, mental and social challenges. This year the six gang leaders are split into two camps: the OGs including Nikhil Chinapa, Neha Dhupia and Prince Narula, and the NewGs including Abhishek Malhan, VJ Bani and Baseer Ali.
With injuries not allowing Bains to compete on field, it is understandable that she is looking for newer opportunities. However, she will be expected to do physical tasks in the MTV Roadies show as well, and hence will have to be careful to not aggravate her existing injuries.

Harmilan is an Indian track athlete, who competes in the women’s 800, 1500, and 3000m Steeplechase. She won two silver medals in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and is also gold medallist at the Asian Indoor Championships.
