India announces squad for World Athletics Race Walking Team championships 2024 in Antalya

India will also have representation in the first-ever race walking mixed relay event.

The upcoming Race Walking Team Championships 2024, which is set to take place in Antalya, Turkey, on April 21, will feature five events.

These include senior men’s and women’s races covering 20km each along with junior category races for both genders covering 10km. The 35km racewalking event for both genders have been removed from this edition.

In lieu of the 35km race, a new Marathon Race Walking Mixed Relay has been introduced covering the marathon distance of 42.195km. Teams will comprise of one male and one female participant who will compete in this relay format with each participant racing twice.

This event serves as an Olympic qualifying opportunity with the top 22 racers earning spots for the Paris Olympics 2024.

The Indian representation for the inaugural mixed relay team showcases the talents of two seasoned Indian racewalkers — Priyanka Goswami and Akshdeep Singh who will be leading the Indian contingent.

Accompanying them, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has unveiled a 14-member squad for the forthcoming World Race Walking Team Championships 2024.

The 20km race walking team consist of a total of 10 members with five individuals in each category for both the men’s and women’s teams. The Indian contingent for the World Race Walking Team Championships comprises an excellent lineup with a blend of experience and emerging talent.

In the men’s team — Suraj Panwar, Ram Baboo, Vikash Singh, Serving S and Arshpreet Singh will represent the nation. On the women’s side, the team will be led by Manju Rani joined by Payal, Pooja Kumawat, Mokavi M and Ramandeep Kaur.

Munita P and Paramjeet Singh will be joining the mixed relay team alongside Priyanka Goswami and Akshdeep Singh.
