India has announced its squad for World Athletics Relays 2024 to be held in Nassau, Bahamas on May 4-5. The event serves as a qualifying competition for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with quota places on offer for the top finishers.
The Indian contingent comprises a strong 15-member team that will compete across the men’s 4x400m, women’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relay events. The squads feature a mix of experienced campaigners and promising youngsters, spearheaded by the stars of the recent Hangzhou Asian Games success.
Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Muhammad Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh, who clinched the men’s 4x400m gold at the Asiad, form the core of the eight-member men’s squad. They will be joined by 2018 Asiad mixed relay gold medallist Arokia Rajiv, Noah Nirmal Tom, Yashas Palaksha and Avinash Krishna Kumar.
The women’s 4x400m line-up is led by the seasoned MR Poovamma and includes the Asian Games silver medal-winning quartet of Vithya Ramraj, Aishwarya Mishra, Prachi and Subha Venkatesan. Jyothika Sri Dandi and Rupal complete the seven-member team.
