India has fielded teams in three 400m relay events – men, women, and mixed.

The spotlight is on the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau as it hosts the World Athletics Relays 2024 on May 4-5, a crucial qualifying event for the Paris Olympics 2024. Over 800 athletes from 54 countries will compete across five relay categories, with Olympic berths on the line.

India has sent a 15-member contingent to vie for quotas in the three 400m relay events – men’s, women’s, and mixed. A maximum of 16 teams will compete in each relay at Paris 2024, with the top 14 finishers in Nassau securing Olympic spots. The remaining two quotas will be allocated by world rankings.

The road to Paris begins with heats on the opening day, where the top two finishers in each race will advance to the finals while also booking Olympic berths. Finals on day two will determine Olympic lane seeding and medal winners. Teams failing to make the finals get a second chance through additional qualification rounds, with the top two finishers in each heat also earning Paris tickets.

In the men’s 4x400m, India will bank on Asian Games 2023 champions Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Muhammad Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh, who hold national and Asian records. The women’s team includes Hangzhou 2023 silver medalists.

With 32 teams entered in the men’s event, 27 in women’s, and 30 in mixed relays, the competition promises to be fierce. Each nation can field one team per event with up to eight athletes, using any four per race.
