A 14-member Indian contingent will represent the nation in the World Athletics Relays 2025.

The World Athletics Relays 2025 in Guangzhou serves as a pivotal qualifier for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September. The Indian contingent consisting of 14-members are set to compete in the men’s and mixed 4x400m events on May 10–11.

Held at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium, the meet includes six relay formats featuring men’s, women’s and mixed categories and will also introduce the mixed 4x100m for the first time. India will participate in the men’s and mixed 4x400m relays.

With participation from 43 nations and 730 athletes, the stakes are significant. The top 14 teams in each relay excluding the new mixed 4x100m will automatically qualify for Tokyo 2025. Two remaining slots will go to the highest ranked teams by August 24, 2025.

For India, strong performances here could secure early tickets to the World Championships and strengthen its reputation as a serious relay contender on the world stage.

The World Athletics Relays 2025 is scheduled to take place on May 10 and 11 at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China.

India’s contingent at World Athletics Relays 2025

India’s 14-member squad for the World Athletics Relays 2025 features a strong lineup in both the men’s and mixed 4x400m events.

The men’s 4x400m relay team includes Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan, Dharamveer Choudhary, Rince Joseph, Tushar Kanti, Jay Kumar, Mohit Kumar, TS Manu, and TK Vishal.

For the mixed 4x400m relay, the Indian team comprises Amoj Jacob, Dharamveer Choudhary, TK Vishal, Sneha Kolleri, Jisna Mathew, Rupal and Subha Venkatesan.

Athletes to watch out for at World Athletics Relays 2025

While Canada will field an unchanged men’s 4x100m squad that won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics led by Andre de Grasse, the other Olympians to watch out for are Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Wayde van Niekerk, Letsile Tebogo and Shericka Jackson.

The USA vs Jamaica showdown at the 2025 World Athletics Relays will be a battle to watch out for with Olympians Kenny Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton headlining the American squad alongside Courtney Lindsey and Marcellus Moore. Jamaica will counter with Kishane Thompson, Yohan Blake, Ackeem Blake and Rohan Watson forming a formidable lineup.

With the USA having dominated the 2024 World Relays, all eyes are on whether they can maintain their momentum or if Jamaica will rise to the challenge in Guangzhou.

In the women’s category, while both Jackson and Fraser-Pryce skipped the 2024 Paris Olympics, their return adds immense strength to Jamaica’s lineup along with Tia Clayton and Alana Reid. On the other side, the USA brings Olympic pedigree as well with Twanisha Terry leading the charge.

Meanwhile, the debut of the mixed 4x100m relay at the 2025 World Athletics Relays in China is one of the most anticipated events. The race will feature elite sprinters such as Canada’s Aaron Brown, a multiple-time Olympic medalist. He’ll face off against a powerful Jamaican unit including Yohan Blake and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Nigeria also enters the fray with a competitive squad and the Great Britain’s 30-member squad includes 60m world indoor champion Jeremiah Azu and Olympian Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake adding depth to their relay ambitions.
