8:25 PM: It was a successful opening day for Indian athletes at the World Athletics U-20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. The 4x400m mixed relay team won a historic bronze medal. On the other hand, Priya Mohan reached the final of the women's 400m.

Amandeep Singh Dhaliwal made it through to the final of the men's shot put. Finally, the duo of Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana and Jay Kumar reached the final of the men's javelin throw event.

8:20 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Fantastic news for India! The duo of Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana and Jay Kumar qualify for the javelin throw finals. Rana finishes in 6th position and Jay in 7th spot in the overall standings.

8:15 PM Men's Javelin Throw: The Indian gets a distance of 70.11m in his final attempt. Therefore, his attempt of 70.34m in his first attempt will count as his best attempt.

7:30 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Nnamdi Chinecherem of Nigeria has everyone in awe right now. After poor throws in the first two attempts, he hurled the javelin to a mammoth distance of 78.02m. The qualifying distance was 73.00m. Chinecherem comfortably smashed the mark and has set a new national under-20 record.

7:25 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana finishes in 4th place in Group A. His best throw has been registered as 71.05m.

7:15 PM Men's Javelin Throw: In his final attempt, Rana gets a distance of 70.48m distance. He continues to stay in 3rd place and has been pretty impressive.

7:10 PM Men's Javelin Throw: The Indian is currently in third place and looks set to reach the final. Slovenia's Filip Dominkovic is the only one who has automatically qualified, by achieving a 73.82m distance in his second attempt.

7:05 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Rana betters his first attempt with a throw of 71.05m with his second attempt. Keep going, lad!

7:00 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Eryk Kolodziejczak of Poland is in the first place, due to his throw of 71.73m with his first attempt. However, his second attempt is a tame one of just 66.70m.

6:55 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Rana achieves a distance of 70.69m with his first attempt. He straightaway moves into the second spot. The boy has got some real talent!

6:52 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana has been placed in Group A. Whereas, Jay Kumar is in Group B. There is a total of 9 participants in each group. The 12 best performers will progress to the finals with the automatic qualification mark set at 73.00.

6:48 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Jay Kumar will be the other Indian representative in action in the men's javelin throw qualifications.

6:45 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Rana had finished in the sixth spot in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. The talented javelin thrower is a Khelo India and Under-17 School Games record holder. Hailing from the Rupnagar district of Punjab, Rana is currently World No. 3. He is now expected to follow in the footsteps of Neeraj Chopra.

6:35 PM Men's Javelin Throw: Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana qualified for the World Athletics U-20 Championships after winning the gold medal in the javelin throw event in the Junior National Federation Cup. The 19-year-old touched his personal best of 74.75m.

The men's javelin throw qualification is scheduled to take place, where the much-fancied Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana will be competing, alongside compatriot Jay Kumar.

The mixed relay team of Priya Mohan, Abdul Razak, Summy and Kapil had topped the Heats 1 with a timing of 3:23.36. They will be in action in the finals of the mixed team relay event.

2:15 PM Men's Hammer Throw: Meanwhile, a disappointing outing for Vipin Kumar finishes with the Indian registering a throw of 63.17m in his final throw. He finishes in the 20th position in the final standings.

2:10 PM Women's 400m Heats: The first two in all 3 heats plus the next two fastest qualified for the finals. Priya Mohan's timing of 53.79 is good enough to secure a spot in the final of the women's 400m. However, her compatriot Summy crashes out. The promising Priya Mohan will now be competing in the final of this event, alongside the mixed team relay. Fantastic news for India!

2:05 PM Women's 400m Heats: Priya Mohan finishes in 4th place. She clocks a timing of 53.79.

2:02 PM Women's 400m Heats: Just a reminder, that this is the same event in which ace sprinter Hima Das had won a gold medal for India in the 2018 edition which was held in Tampere, Finland.

2:00 PM Women's 400m Heats: Priya Mohan will be in action now in Heats 3 of the qualifiers.

1:55 PM Women's 400m Heats: Summy finishes in 5th place with a timing of 55.43. It looks like the fatigue after running in the morning race had its toll on the Indian girl.

1:50 PM Women's 400m Heats: India's Summy will now be in action in Heats 2 of the qualifiers.

1:45 PM Men's Hammer Throw: Vipin registers a distance of 62.24m with his second throw. He needs to come up with something special in his last attempt.

1:35 PM Women's 400m heats: The women's 400m heats will follow soon. After a blistering race for the mixed relay team earlier in the day, Priya Mohan and Summy will now be aiming for individual glory.

1:25 PM 4x400m Mixed Relay Qualifiers: The Indian team consisting of Priya Mohan, Abdul Razak, Summy and Kapil had topped the Heats 1 with a timing of 3:23.36. However, Nigeria won the Heats 2 with better timing of 3:21.66. Therefore, the Indian team finishes in second place overall.

1:20 PM Men's Shot Put: Amandeep Singh Dhaliwal registered attempts of 17.92m, 17.75m and 17.90m in his three throws. This means that his best throw was 17.92m, which placed him in the 6th spot in the group. Dhaliwal will now be seen in action in the finals of the men's shot put.

1:15 PM Men's Shot Put: A total of 20 participants competed across two different groups. The top 12 best performers gained entry into the final.

1:10 PM Men's Shot Put: Amandeep Singh Dhaliwal was the lone Indian representative in the men's shot put qualifications.

12.00 - 4x400m mixed relay: India has a great start to the day as the mixed 4x400m mixed relay team finish 1st in Heat1 with a championship record time of 3:29.36. The finals are scheduled to occur at 8.15 pm tonight

A number of promising Indian athletes will take part in the 2021 World U-20 Athletics Championships. The likes of Shaili Singh, Priya Mohan and Anu Kumar will be eager to shine on the global stage. A 28-member Indian contingent under the tutelage of Kamal Ali Khan will compete at the World Athletics U-20 Championships. This competition acts as the perfect springboard for several star athletes of the future.

Over the years, four Indian athletes have won medals at the World Athletics U-20 Championships. Seema Antil and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon had bagged bronze medals in 2002 and 2014 respectively. More recently, India’s athletics poster-boy Neeraj Chopra had won the gold medal at the 2016 World Athletics U-20 Championships. Ace sprinter Hima Das had claimed top honours in the 400m race at the 2018 edition. The current contingent will be hoping to follow in their footsteps and set the Kasarani Stadium on fire.

All eyes on Priya Mohan and Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana

The opening day of the World Athletics U-20 Championships will witness Priya Mohan and Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana in action.

Priya Mohan won the 400m title during the National Senior Inter-State Athletics Championships held in July at Patiala. She had clocked a timing of 53.29 seconds. Only six U-20 athletes in the world have recorded better timings than her this season. Priya Mohan is one of the most talented track athletes of India currently. The 18-year-old has given stiff competition to even the senior athletes of the country. The girl from Karnataka will now compete alongside the best young athletes in the world.

Rana qualified for the World Athletics U-20 Championships after winning the gold medal in the javelin throw event in the Junior National Federation Cup. The 19-year-old touched his personal best of 74.75 metres. Rana’s progress over the last few years has been phenomenal. He finished in the sixth spot in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. The talented javelin thrower is a Khelo India and Under-17 School Games record holder. Hailing from the Kiratpur Sahib in the Rupnagar district of Punjab, Rana is currently World No. 3.
