Indians participating at Xiamen Diamond League 2024
Triple jumper Abdulla Aboobacker Narangolintevida will be the sole Indian representative in Xiamen. At 28-years-old, Aboobacker has already made a mark on the international stage, securing the men’s triple jump gold at the Asian Athletics Championships last year. Currently, he holds the 16th position in the world rankings.
Athletes to watch
All eyes will be on American sprint sensation Sha’Carri Richardson, as she makes her much-anticipated return to individual competition at the Diamond League opener in Xiamen on April 20th. The double world champion will toe the line in the 200m, her first solo race since last year’s Prefontaine Classic, where she finished behind 2023 Diamond League winner Shericka Jackson.
The men’s pole vault promises fireworks as reigning Olympic and world champion Armand Duplantis launches his quest for a fourth straight Diamond Trophy. The 24-year-old Swede, who has broken the world record seven times, will face stiff competition from Americans Christopher Nilsen, Sam Kendricks and KC Lightfoot in Xiamen.
In the sprints, world 100m champion Christian Coleman kicks off his title defence by clashing with 2022 world champion Fred Kerley and Jamaican stars Yohan Blake and Ackeem Blake. Meanwhile, world indoor 60m champion Mujinga Kambundji and 2012 world junior champion Anthonique Strachan add intrigue to the women’s 200m in Xiamen.
