The Zurich Diamond League 2024 has begun, with top athletes from around the world competing in 14 events. The competition features seven events each in the men’s and women’s categories. Athletes will be aiming to earn as many points as possible to qualify for the Wanda Diamond League Finals.

The 13th leg of the Diamond League began with the women’s pole vault on September 4 and will conclude with the women’s 100m hurdles on September 6. Following the women’s pole vault, an exciting exhibition featuring featuring Mondo Duplantis and Karsten Warholm will take place, where both athletes will compete in a 100m race.

The first event in the men’s competition will be shot put, scheduled for September 5. The final men’s event will be the 1500m, set for September 6. The intensity will be extremely high in all events, with 14 Paris Olympic champions competing in Zurich.

Indian athletes have found considerable success in the Diamond League this season. While Neeraj Chopra came close to breaching the 90m mark in men’s javelin throw, Avinash Sable set new records in the men’s 3000m steeplechase.

Chopra competed at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 in August, finishing second in the men’s javelin throw. His best attempt of 89.49m was only behind Anderson Peters, who threw 90.61m. Chopra began his 2024 season at the Doha Diamond League in May, where he also finished second with a best attempt of 88.36m. Jakub Vadlejch came in first with a throw of 88.38m.

Sable competed in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the Paris Diamond League 2024 in July, finishing sixth with a national record of 8:09.91. The 29-year-old next competed at the Silesia Diamond League 2024 in August, where he finished a disappointing 14th with a time of 8:29.96.
