Thomas Cup is set to commence from April 27.
Thomas Cup 2024 kicks off on April 27 (Saturday) for its 33rd edition with a total of 16 nations fighting for glory.
Founded way back in 1949, the Thomas Cup has been dominated by just a handful of badminton powerhouses. Indonesia leads the way with 14 titles, while China has captured the crown 10 times. Malaysia rounds out the top three most successful nations with five Thomas Cup wins.
India won their first-ever Thomas Cup in 2022 on the back of stars like Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy. They will look to defend their title this year.
The group stage format calls for each tie to feature five individual matches, with the outcome being decided even if one team clinches victory earlier. The top two finishers per group will advance to the knockout quarterfinals.
Once the quarterfinals begin, ties will be contested in a best-of-five individual matches setup. The first team to win three of those matches claims the overall team victory.
Singles and doubles matches will be alternated within each tie’s individual matchups. The three singles rubbers and two doubles rubbers.
