Amul dedicates new doodle to Satwik and Chirag after their historic triumph at Indonesia Open
The duo becomes the first Indian pair to win a Super 1000.
Amul has dedicated a doodle to the star doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. Amul which is an Indian daily cooperative brand is well known for making such artwork highlighting current events. This time around they chose the doubles pair of Satwik and Chirag courtesy of their brilliant performance at the Indonesia Open 2023.
History was created at the men's doubles in the Indonesian Open today as the Indian pair beat the reigning world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the final to win India's maiden BWF Super 1000 title at the Indonesia Open 2023. The Indian pair, sixth in men's doubles rankings, registered a 21-17, 21-18 win over their World No. 3 Malaysian opponents in 43 minutes to claim their first-ever Super 1000 title.
The Amul doodle shows Chirag and Satwik sitting side by side on a bench with their respective trophies and enjoying their bread and butter. "This is one of the best stadiums to play badminton in. I want to thank everyone that showed up today and cheered for us. The crowd was simply amazing. It’s very noisy. Unfortunately, this is the last time the tournament will be held in this stadium, but this is the best way to sign off from Istora," Chirag told the stadium presenters.
"It's been an amazing week for us. I'm happy with the way we played today and the calm we had because we had never won against them. Our head-to-head against them was very bad. We wanted to do well." added Satwik, his partner in crime.
The duo's achievements at the BWF circuit has been nothing short of extraordinary. Till date they have won everything starting from the Super 100, Super 300, Super 500, Super 750 and now even a Super 1000 title.
However, things got a little patchy at the end. Right at the match point, there seemed to be a matter of nerves that came into play for the Indians. The Malaysian pair saved four match points and suddenly they were within two more points of forcing a decider.
Despite that the Indians found a way to pull themselves together and managed to win a point to make that memorable win. It is also to be noted that the Indian pair had been successful to beat their adversaries in their eight prior attempts.
