Indonesia Open 2023 Semi-Finals Summary
Men's singles
Two-time defending champion Viktor Axelsen defeated India's HS Prannoy to enter a third successive final at the Indonesia Open. The World No.1 beat Prannoy 21-15, 21-15 in just 46 minutes to advance to take another step closer to defending his men's singles title. The Danish shutter also won the Indonesia Open title in both 2021 and 2022.
In the other men's singles semi-final, second-seed and home favourite Anthony Sinisuka Ginting beat China's Li Shi Feng in straight games (21-17, 21-15) to enter his maiden Indonesia Open final. Ginting is coming off a title winning campaign at Singapore Open last week and also won the Asia Championships earlier in the season.
Women's Singles
Carolina Marin and Chen Yu Fei will clash in their first-ever final appearance at the Indonesia Open. Sixth-seed Marin beat Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon in straight games (21-12, 21-11) in the semi-final to advance to the summit clash. While, China's fourth-seed Chen Yu Fei defeated the in-form An Se Young 21-8, 21-17 to make the final.
Both players are yet to win a title on the BWF World Tour this season. Both have also reached the final in one competition this season. While Marin lost the Indonesia Masters final to An Se Young earlier this year, Chen Yu Fei was by beaten by the Korean in the All England Open final.
In men's doubles, India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have reached their maiden final at the Indonesia Open. This is also the pair's first-ever final appearance in a BWF World Tour 1000 level tournament, making them also the first Indian pair to reach the finals of a 1000 level completion in the World Tour. Satwik-Chirag will clash against defending world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Sooi Yik of Malaysia in the title clash.
