Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023 semi-finals Highlights: Host Indonesia defeat Thailand, progress to final

Welcome to Khel Now's live blog of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023 Quarter-finals between Indonesia and Thailand.
Indonesia is set to take on Thailand in the semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023. The hosts had an easy outing in the quarter-finals defeating India (3-1). The mixed doubles pair started the proceedings on a bright note registering a straight-game win and was ably followed by a men’s singles win.
The men’s singles tie was closely contested off the four ties with the match lasting for close to 90 minutes. Alwi Farhan started the tie slowly losing the opening game but gave a good fightback in the next two. In the deciding game, Farhan scored three straight points trailing at 18-19 to register an important win and take an unassailable (2-0) lead.
In the third tie, women’s singles specialist Ruzana had a golden opportunity of finishing the match and simultaneously whitewashing the scoreline (3-0). Rakshitha Sree from India fought hard and took the opening game. Ruzana did not fall back either and made a resounding comeback taking the second game. The deciding game was a grueling contest with Ruzana saving three match points but in the end could not stop the Indian from registering a victory.
The men’s doubles pair sealed the deal for the Indonesians with an easy victory with the tie lasting for three games. On the other hand, their opponents Thailand had a more comfortable victory in the quarter-finals. Thailand secured two straight game ties against Malaysia who were of no match. Apart from the men’s singles category, Malaysia did not put up much fight in the other two ties.

Group Stage summary
Hosts Indonesia, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, India, Thailand and Korea advanced to the knockout stages of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023 after a gruelling group stages. While Indonesia advanced as the top-placed team from Group A, China made it through by virtue of finishing second. Similarly, Japan topped Group B and Chinese Taipei came second. India finished second in Group C, while Malaysia came out on top. Korea qualified as Group D leaders.
