The much-anticipated BWF World Championships 2023 draw is set to take place today (August 10th) at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 16 Indian players will be part of the draw with HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu, and Satwik-Chirag spearheading the Indian contingent.
In the men’s section, HS Prannoy is the top seeded Indian at ninth, followed by Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu is the lone Indian in the women’s singles category after the withdrawal of London Olympics bronze medalist Saina Nehwal. Only the top 16 players are seeded at the World Championships and Sindhu just got in the seedings taking the 16th spot.
The 28-year-old is India’s most successful shuttler at the competition having claimed five medals (gold – one, silver – two, and bronze – two) so far. She last claimed medal in 2019 where she went all way out to clinch the gold medal and became the World Champion.
However, Sindhu post the Commonwealth Games 2022 triumph hasn’t had consistent form; reaching only one final at the BWF Spain Masters this season. She is generally termed as a big tournament player and having missed out last time due to an injury, Sindhu will look to go all guns blazing.
