The Hong Kong Open, known as the Victor Hong Kong Open for sponsorship reasons, takes place at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon, Hong Kong. This Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 500 tournament attracts many elite badminton players from all over the world, with a total cash prize of $420,000.
It is a part of the Hong Kong Open championships, which have been organized since 1982. Since 2018, the BWF has classified the Hong Kong Open as one of the Super 500 tier events. The prestigious tournament, however, wasn’t held in 1983, 1984, 1990, 2000, 2002, 2004, and was canceled in 2020, 2021, and 2022, due to Covid-19 pandemic in Hong Kong.
In the history of the competition, China has been the most dominant country, having won 69 titles overall, with 14 men’s singles, 19 women’s singles, 4 men’s doubles, 22 women’s doubles, and 10 mixed doubles crowns. Meanwhile, South Korea and Indonesia, having bagged 32 and 23 titles respectively, stand as the second and third most accomplished nations in the Hong Kong Open.
We will now take a look at the past winners of the Hong Kong Open.
