Loh Kean Yew came the closest but finished 15th in the qualification cycle.

The BWF World Tour Finals 2023 is scheduled to be held from December 13-17 in Hangzhou, China. The top eight players/pairs across all the five categories who have secured most number of points this season qualified for the year-ending competition. However, there are few qualification criterias as well apart from the requirement to finish in the top eight of the qualification race.

World champions in each category have the luxury to attain direct qualification. Kunlavut Vitidsarn in men’s singles did not finish inside top eight in the road to BWF World Tour Finals but by virtue of winning the BWF World Championships he received a direct entry. Also, only two players or pair from a single nation is allowed to participate in the competition.

In the mixed doubles category Jiang Zhengbang and Wei Yaxin finished sixth by accumulating 87,460 points and on any given season this should be enough to qualify for the finals. But with compatriots Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping and Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong finishing first and second in the qualifying race, Jiang/Wei failed to make the cut.

Has any shuttler from Singapore qualified for BWF World Tour Finals 2023?

None of the players/pairs from Singapore made the cut for BWF World Tour Finals 2023. Former world champion Loh Kean Yew, 26, finished 15th in men’s singles category. He was country’s only hope to make it to the competition but with insufficient points in his kitty he failed to qualify. In the women’s singles, Yeo Jia Min finished 18th by securing 56,890 points.

Moving to the doubles section, Jin Yua Jia and Wong Jia Ying in women’s doubles and Hee Yong Kai and Tan Wei in mixed finished in 33rd and 28th spots respectively.

Yeo Jia Min made the cut in 2021 but unfortunately had to retire midway after suffering from an injury in her second round-robin fixture. In the previous edition, Loh Kean Yew made it to the competition but fell short of qualifying for the semifinals after he finished third in the group stage.
