A few days back she won the Arjuna award.
India’s young sensation, Sheetal Devi, bags the Women’s Para Archer of the Year award for 2023. The results was announced by World Archery on Friday, December 29th. With this achievement, Sheetal Devi becomes the first Indian archer to receive an end-of-year award.
Ranked world number one in compound women’s open category, Sheetal had a successful season winning the silver at World Para Archery Championships. The podium finish helped her secure Paralympics 2024 quota and simultaneously became the world’s first armless archer to secure a medal. Furthermore, she went on to claim multiple medals at the Asian Para Games.
To sum up the season, she won gold in the inaugural edition of Khelo India Para Games representing Jammu and Kashmir.
Till date, World Archery has revealed the winners of the six division categories in the 2023 Athlete of the Year awards. Reigning Olympic and World champion from Turkiye Mete Gazoz won the men’s recurve player of the player award followed by Lim Sihyeon of South Korea in the women’s category.
In the compound section, Jozef Bosansky became the first archer from Slovakia and the oldest able-bodied athlete, 47, to win compound archer of the year award.
