An Se young is yet to lose against Sindhu.
The All England Open 2024 witnessed a remarkable encounter as World No. 1 An Se Young extended her winning streak against India’s PV Sindhu, securing a swift victory in the women’s singles second round. The defending champion showcased her peak form, outplaying the two-time Olympic medallist with scores of 19-21, 11-21 in a match that lasted a mere 42 minutes.
Sindhu, who has been working towards regaining her top form after a lengthy injury layoff, began the match on a promising note, quickly taking a 4-1 lead. However, An’s resilient defense and rapid transitions from defense to attack overwhelmed Sindhu, who struggled to maintain her initial momentum.
The mid-game interval saw Sindhu seeking to recalibrate her strategy. Despite a valiant effort to turn the tide, Sindhu’s attempts to hasten the rallies were countered by An’s precision and agility, culminating in a narrow loss in the first game.
An Se Young, reflecting on her victory, expressed profound respect for her opponent, stating, “It was an honour to play against PV Sindhu today. Her legacy as a powerful and legendary player always adds a layer of significance to our matches. Facing her on the court is a nerve-wracking yet enriching experience that aids in my preparation for upcoming challenges.”
In another match of the day, Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei emerged victorious against South Korea’s Kim Ga Eun. The World No. 3 player, known for her exceptional skill and finesse, overcame her opponent in straight games, 21-17, 21-15, within 33 minutes. Despite not feeling at her physical best due to recurring injuries, Tai Tzu Ying’s determination shone through as she navigated the pain to deliver a commendable performance.
Post-match, Tai Tzu Ying shared insights into her condition, saying, “I do have some injuries, but I’m receiving treatment and adapting to different situations each day on the court. I hold myself to high standards, and even when I’m not physically at my best, my goal is to give my all in every match.”
