Badminton Asia Championships 2024
Badminton Asia Championships: Full list of title winners
The Badminton Asia Championships 2024 are set to commence on April 9th.
The Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) commenced in 1962 and have been held annually since 1991. China has hosted this tournament most frequently, a total of 12 times. Although Malaysia last hosted the Championships in 2008, they are a close second, having hosted it 10 times. Last year, the United Arab Emirates served as the host nation for the first time. China are scheduled to host the tournament again in 2024 and 2025, with Ningbo being the chosen host city.
At the BAC, China have been dominant, winning a total of 245 medals, which includes 76 golds. Indonesia are in second place with 141 medals, including 34 golds. South Korea are third, having secured 100 medals, of which 33 are golds.
India has two Badminton Asia champions: Dinesh Khanna, the first in 1965 in the men’s singles and the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the men’s doubles at a recent tournament. Khanna also won a Commonwealth Games bronze in 1966 and the Arjuna award. Rankireddy and Shetty’s victory over Malaysian pair marked the first gold for India in men’s doubles at the Championships, surpassing the previous Indian record of a bronze in 1971.
