Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were slated to play a pair from the qualifiers in the first round.
India’s highest-ever ranked women’s doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have withdrawn from the upcoming Badminton Asia Championships 2025. The reasons for the same are unknown as of now.
The 42nd edition of the Badminton Asia Championships are set to be played at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, China, from April 8 to 13. Since the continent is a powerhouse in the sport, the world’s best players will be in action in the upcoming week. A whopping prize pool of USD 500,000 is on offer, cumulatively.
The duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand has been in decent form recently, overcoming a long duration of slump. The World Number #9 pair reached the quarterfinals of the All England Championships, followed by the semifinals of the Swiss Open. On both occasions, their march to the title was halted by World Number #1 Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning.

It is worth noting that they had become the highest-ever ranked women’s doubles pair from the nation earlier this year, going past the former World Number #10 duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa. The two-time All England Open semifinalists were slated to play a team from the qualifiers in the first round, but will now be replaced in the main draw.
The development also makes the pairing of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra, India’s sole representatives in the women doubles event. While the singles contingent is full strength, with the likes of PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy all in action, the doubles squads is now heavily depleted, considering the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty too is absent.
