The third day of the competition saw good performances from the Indians.

The BWF World Championships 2021 are underway in Huelva, Spain. A number of top badminton players from across the globe are taking part to win the top honours. On Day 3 of the tournament, several Indians were part of the action, including PV Sindhu. The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist secured an easy victory over Martina Repiska by 21-7, 21-9 to book a place in the next round.

The Indian shuttler is one of the strongest hopes of a medal at the ongoing BWF World Championships. Sindhu made short work of her opponent, winning the contest in straight games in merely 24 minutes. She will now face Pornpawee Chochuwong in the next round. Lakshya Sen secured a berth into the third round by upsetting Kenta Nishimoto of Japan by a 22-20, 15-21, 21-18 scoreline. The epic encounter lasted for 1 hour and 22 minutes.

Following suit, Kidambi Srikanth also secured a win over his opponent from China with a brilliant comeback. The 12th seeded Indian managed a 15-21, 21-18, 21-17 win over Li Shi Feng to make his way into the next round of BWF World Championships. The match stretched into the third game, as Srikanth clawed his way back after losing the first. He overcame the opponent in 1 hour and 09 minutes.

Mixed performance in doubles category

There were some disappointing outcomes for the Indian shuttlers at the BWF World Championships too. Unlike the singles bracket where Indians were very impressive, the doubles category saw contrasting results. In the mixed doubles, Anoushka Parikh and Saurabh Sharma lost their encounter 21-8, 21-18 to Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing.

However, the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won their match against Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-Hsuan with a 27-25, 21-17 scoreline. The eight seeded pair will face Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin of Malaysia in the third round.
