Badminton European Championships 2025: Updated schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details

Defending champion Anders Antonsen is the top seed.
First held in 1968, this is the 31st edition of the Badminton European Championships. Horsens, Denmark, plays host to the championships scheduled from April 8th to April 13th. The total prize money of the tournament is US$500,000.
The Badminton European Championships 2025 come with a mix of excitement and notable absences. Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, a two-time Olympic champion, will miss the event as he undergoes back surgery in an effort to extend his career and return to playing pain-free.
This is not the first time Axelsen has had to withdraw from the competition. In 2024, he stepped onto the court reportedly affected by a virus but was forced to retire in the second round against France’s Alex Lanier. Earlier in 2021, he reached the final but was unable to compete against fellow Dane Anders Antonsen due to a COVID-19 infection.
Just as Axelsen’s absence shakes up the men’s draw, the women’s singles category faces a similar void with Carolina Marin’s withdrawal. The Spanish star has dominated the European Championships, winning seven titles in her career, including a streak from 2014 to 2018 and another three wins in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
In 2023, she won the European Games Gold. Marin’s aggressive gameplay and experience have made her the face of European women’s badminton. However, this time, Carolina Marin will not be competing, opening the door for a new champion to emerge.
With Axelsen out, Anders Antonsen now carries Denmark’s hopes and is the favourite to claim the men’s singles title. However, with the absence of the continent’s biggest name, young challengers like Christo Popov and Alex Lanier from France could see this as their golden opportunity to break through and claim a major title.
In mixed doubles, defending champions Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue enter the tournament as the top seeds. Here’s everything you need to know about BEC 2025:
