The BWF World Championships are one of badminton’s most prestigious tournaments. Japan is the host country for the 2022 edition of the tournament. All the top shuttlers across the globe made their way to Tokyo for the championship. The race for gold in the various categories is set to be intense. A 26-strong contingent will be participating for India at the BWF World Championships.

Saina Nehwal was back in action yesterday and got off to a winning start by beating Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong. The Indian contingent had a joyous first day with players like Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, and Prannoy H.S recording impressive wins. There are a lot of expectations from the Indian squad which has several medal winners from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

P.V. Sindhu was supposed to play at the tournament but had to withdraw due to an injury. However, there were a lot of other high-profile players to witness on the second day. Here is a roundup of the results from the 2022 BWF World Championships in Tokyo.

Indian shuttlers will look to continue their golden run at the upcoming BWF World Championships in Tokyo on 22nd August 2022. The shuttlers had an astounding run at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and bagged six medals. 

India is gradually growing into a dominant nation in the world of badminton. The revolution that came in Badminton in India is outstanding in the past few years. Out of these 12 medals, seven have been won in the last five years, which includes the year 2020 when the Championship was cancelled due to the pandemic. The first medal came in 1983 through Prakash Padukone whereas the last medal came in 2021 through Kidambi Srikanth.
