China Open 2025: Satwik-Chirag stun Ong-Teo to reach semi-finals

Satwik-Chirag aim to clinch their first title of the season at the China Open 2025.
India’s top men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, continued their dominant run at the China Open 2025, defeating Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi in straight games to book a spot in the semi-finals on Friday, July 25.
The Indian duo crushed the former World Championship bronze medallists 21-18, 21-14 at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou, People’s Republic of China.
Satwik and Chirag have been on a juggernaut journey, not dropping a single game so far in the tournament. They began their campaign with a 21-13, 21-9 win over Japan’s Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura, followed by a hard-fought 21-19, 21-19 victory against Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana in the Round of 16.

Reaching the semi-finals of the China Open means a lot for the Indian pair as they are still in search of their first title of the 2025 season. Sat-Chi came close several times but lost in the semi-finals at the year’s first Malaysia Open, then India Open, and Singapore Open.
Now in China, they are looking to break that semi-final curse and finally secure a podium finish. This is their first-ever semi-final appearance at the China Open, though they’ve already experienced the thrill of a final battle on Chinese soil, finishing runners-up at the China Masters 2023.
In the semi-finals, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty face an even tougher test against the World No. 2 pair of Malaysia, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. This matchup carries extra weight, as Chia and Soh are the ones who ended Satwik-Chirag’s dream run at the Paris 2024 Olympics, knocking them out in the quarter-finals.
Chia-Soh booked their spot in the semis with a 21-16, 21-16 win over the fellow Malaysians Tee Kai Wun and Man Wei Chong.
