Lee Zii Jia was supposed to face Kenta Nishimoto in the opening round of BWF Denmark Open 2024.

The BWF Denmark Open 2024 will not be witnessing Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in action in men’s singles. The third seed had suffered an ankle injury during his quarterfinal loss against Koki Watanabe in the Arctic Open. Jia had reached Odense on Sunday to compete in the Denmark Open but he felt discomfort in the ankle which led to his withdrawal. Ever since winning bronze in Paris, he has competed in only three events.

The 26-year-old had reached the finals of Denmark Open in 2023 and lost to China’s Weng Hong Yang in straight games. He was expected to face Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the opening round of Denmark Open this time but will now hope to recover quickly as there are only seven events left in the BWF tour this season. In Jia’s absence, Leong Jun Hao will be leading the attack for Malaysia in men’s singles.

The next BWF 750 superseries event will be the China Masters which will begin from November 19. It will be the final BWF 750 superseries event of the season. Jia’s comeback remains uncertain as the Hylo Open will be starting from October 29. The Malaysian shuttler could skip the Hylo Open and Korea Masters and will be evaluating his return to ensure his health remains in good condition at the end of the season.

Lee Zii Jia’s injury concerns rise since Paris Olympics 2024

Jia defeated India’s Lakshya Sen to clinch bronze in men’s singles during Paris Olympics 2024. But ever since his podium finish in the games, the shuttler has been struggling with injuries. He had missed in tournaments in Korea and Hong Kong. The Denmark Open will be the third competition Jia will be absent from since Paris.

During the China Open last month, Jia opened up on his troubles with training. He revealed that his body became stiff after intense training since coming back from the summer games. The Olympic medallist also had trouble with recovery after the matches. His ankle injury in the quarterfinal match of Arctic Open forced him to receive medical treatment during the match.

Jia had lost his balance during a rally and could not play with his usual court coverage skills. Fans will be now hoping that the Malaysian star secures a healthy and fit comeback to the tour.
