The BWF Hong Kong Open 2024 is set to see the top players from around the world compete. It will be the 34th edition of the event which will be held this season. The event will begin with the conclusion of Taipei Open 2024 on September 8. The tournament is part of the BWF world tour Super 500 series.

Shi Yu Qi will be leading the attack in the main draw of men’s singles. He had lost in the semi-finals of the Japan Open and had ended his campaign in the quarterfinals of the Korea Open. Qi will be joined by double Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen who will be playing his first match since winning in Paris. Defending champion, Jonatan Christie will also be playing his first event since the Olympics.

In the women’s singles draw, Tai Tzu Ying is looking to enter her first final in seven months. She had exited in the quarterfinals of the Chinese Taipei Open a few days back. China’s Wang Zhi Yi is in good form as she reached the finals of the Korea Open. Fellow compatriot, Han Yue has suffered quarterfinal exits in the last two events she played in.

Meanwhile, the Indian squad will not see the top players competing at Hong Kong. They have been on a break since playing in Paris. India has not seen players winning the title since a long time. Prakash Padukone was the men’s singles winner in the inaugural edition in 1982 and Saina Nehwal won the women’s singles title in 2010.
