Hong Kong Open 2024: Full list of players who have withdrawn from BWF 500 tournament

Shi Yu Qi has withdrawn from BWF Hong Kong Open 2024.

The BWF Hong Kong Open 2024 main draw has been finalised across five events. There have been withdrawals from many top players in the event. The main draw has seen the absence of few players who have not played a match since the Paris Olympics. The Indian Olympic squad is yet to make a full scale comeback to the BWF tour.

The biggest withdrawal of BWF Hong Kong Open 2024 has been Shi Yu Qi in men’s singles. The world No# 1 had suffered a quarterfinals exit against Lee Cheuk Yiu in the Korea Open a few days back. He has played in two events since the Paris Olympics. Qi had not featured in the previous edition of the Hong Kong Open.

Fourth seed, Li Shi Feng of China will also not be competing at BWF Hong Kong Open 2024. He had last played in the Korea Open while losing to Chia Hao Lee in the quarterfinals. Lee will join Feng as one of the absentees at the Hong Kong Open this time.

In women’s singles, second seed Wang Zhi Yi of China will not feature in the event this year. She had reached the finals of Korea Open but issued a walkover against Kim Ga Eun. Yi had reached the quarterfinals during her previous visit in the Hong Kong Open in 2023.

Former champion, Nozomi Okuhara has also joined the withdrawal list. The 2018 champion had lost in the fourth round of Japan Open to Natsuki Nidaira two weeks back. Meanwhile there are no withdrawals in women’s doubles. The men’s doubles and mixed doubles has seen the withdrawal of two pairs each.

Two time Olympic bronze medallists, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik will not be competing in men’s doubles event at Hong Open 2024.

The men’s singles main draw will now be led by defending champion, Jonatan Christie. In the women’s draw, there will be no changes as Tai Tzu Ying will be leading the attack.
