Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand exit in semifinals

India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand bowed out from the semi-final stage at the Macau Open 2024 following a three-game defeat to Chinese Taipei’s Hung En-Tzu and Hsieh Pei Shan in the women’s doubles semis.

This was the Indian pair’s second semi-final exit of the season after the Singapore Open in June, they are yet to reach a final on the BWF World Tour this year.

Ranked 23rd in the world rankings, Treesa-Gayatri recovered well after a first-game loss to force a decider, but failed to show consistency and went down 17-21, 21-16, 10-21 in an hour-long match.

They had started the match well trading points for points with the Taipei duo, before Hung and Hsieh broke away to a 13-8 lead in the first game. But the Indian pair pulled back to level the game at 15-all. However, Hung-Hsieh took six of the next eight points to bag the opening game.

Three-Gayatri, who were seeded third at Macau Open 2024, showed more urgency in the next game to force a decider. In the deciding third game though, they looked far from best as the Taipei pair never allowed them a sniff and took the game to reach the final.
