Treesa-Gayatri advance to semifinals
India’s women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Macau Open 2024 with straight games win over Hsu Yin-Hui and Lin Jhih of Chinese Taipei on Friday.
The Commonwealth Games medallists, marched into the semis after beating their sixth-seeded opponents 21-12, 21-17 in just 39 minutes. This was the Indian pair’s second win over the Tsipei duo in as many meetings.
Treesa-Gayatri started slow and trailed 1-3 at the start but recovered quickly to lead 11-7 at the mid-game interval of Game 1. The World No. #23 pair kept that intensity to bag the first game 21-12.
In the second game, Yin-Hui/Jhih Yun were better and led 11-9 at the interval. But the Indian duo once again recovered to level the game at 14-14 and then won seven of the last 10 points to win the match in straight games and move into the semis.
They will next face another Chinese Taipei pair Hung En-Tzu and Hsieh Pei Shan for a place in the final. Treesa and Gayatri have failed to reach a final since October 2022.
