All you need to know about prize money and points on offer at BWF Australian Open 2026

The total prize pool of Australian Open 2026 is US$500,000.

The BWF World Tour heads to Sydney for the Australian Open 2026, a Super 500 event that marks the final stop of the tour’s Oceania swing. Scheduled from June 9 to 14 at the State Sports Centre, the tournament will feature several established stars and rising talents competing for valuable ranking points and prize money.

In men’s singles, Chinese Taipei veterans Chou Tien-chen and Lin Chun-yi lead the field alongside Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan, Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu and Japan’s Yushi Tanaka.

The tournament has also been affected by several notable withdrawals across categories. Defending men’s singles champion Lakshya Sen opted not to participate, while fellow Indians Ayush Shetty and H. S. Prannoy also pulled out of the event. Singapore’s former world champion Loh Kean Yew, one of the seeded players in men’s singles, has withdrawn as well.

In the doubles events, top-seeded Indonesian men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, along with defending champions Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin, will not compete in Sydney. India’s Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto have withdrawn from the mixed doubles draw, while leading women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are also absent. These withdrawals have opened up opportunities for several lower-ranked players and pairs to make deep runs in the tournament.

The women’s singles draw is headlined by former world champions Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara, Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong and Supanida Katethong, and India’s two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who enters the tournament as the third seed.

The doubles events will also feature several strong combinations. China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang are among the favourites in men’s doubles, while women’s doubles top seeds Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian lead the charge in their category.

In mixed doubles, top seeds Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping headline the field alongside China’s Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui, Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat, and Indonesia’s Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.

As a BWF Super 500 tournament, the Australian Open 2026 offers valuable ranking points towards the BWF World Rankings and qualification race for the World Tour Finals. Players will also compete for a share of the US$500,000 prize pool.

Australian Open 2026 points on offer

As per the BWF points system for Super 500 events, the winner of each category will earn 9,200 ranking points, while the runner-up will receive 7,800 points.

Players reaching the semi-finals will collect 6,420 points, whereas quarter-finalists will secure 5,040 points. A Round of 16 finish guarantees 3,600 points, while first-round losers will receive 2,220 points.

Australian Open 2026 prize pool

According to BWF regulations, the total prize pool for the Australian Open 2026 is USD 500,000. Winners in both singles categories will receive USD 37,500, while champions in all three doubles events will earn USD 39,500 per pair.

The runners-up in all five categories will take home USD 19,000. Losing semi-finalists in singles events will receive USD 7,250, while doubles pairs will earn USD 7,000.

Quarter-finalists in singles categories will pocket USD 3,000, whereas doubles pairs will receive USD 3,625. Players reaching the Round of 16 in singles events will earn USD 1,750, while doubles pairs will receive USD 1,875.
