BWF China Open 2026: All you need to know about prize money & points on offer

The total prize pool of the BWF China Open 2026 is US$2,000,000.

The BWF China Open 2026 is taking place from July 21 to 26 at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China.

As a Super 1000 event on the BWF World Tour, the tournament stands as one of the biggest stops on the calendar, offering the highest prize money and maximum ranking points as players continue their push through the demanding Asian leg of the season.

Defending champions Shi Yuqi and Wang Zhiyi headline a stacked field, though the draw has already been shaken up following the withdrawal of top seed An Se Young in women’s singles.

Meanwhile, India’s campaign suffered a major setback even before the tournament began, with third seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pulling out due to Satwik’s recurring shoulder injury, continuing a frustrating pattern of Super 1000 withdrawals for the Indian pair this season.

The opening round threw up its fair share of shocks. Second seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn suffered a surprise defeat to Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke in a hard-fought three-game battle, while third seed Anders Antonsen also crashed out in the first round, adding to the list of upsets in men’s singles.

The women’s doubles draw witnessed its own drama as well, with second seeds Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian of China going down to Indonesia’s Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum in a tight contest, 24-22, 21-17.

With such significant prize money and crucial ranking points on offer, the China Open remains a pivotal tournament for players building momentum heading into the BWF World Championships later this year.

The showpiece event returns to India after 17 years, with the Indira Gandhi Arena in New Delhi hosting the World Championships from August 17 to 23.

For many players competing in Changzhou, results here will carry added significance as they look to fine-tune their form and secure crucial seeding positions before badminton’s biggest individual tournament gets underway just a few weeks later.

China Open 2026: Points on offer

As mentioned above, points are awarded in accordance with the rules for all Super 1000 events. The winner will receive 13,500 points, while the runner-up will receive 11,500 points.

Players reaching the semi-finals will receive 9,500 points, while players losing in the quarter-finals will receive 7,400 points. Moreover, a Round of 16 finish assures a player/pair 5,400 points, while a Round of 32 exit will offer 3,300 points.

China Open 2026: Prize pool

According to BWF rules, the total prize pool for the China Open 2026 is USD 2,000,000. The winners in both singles categories will receive USD 140,000, while their counterparts in the doubles events will get USD 148,000.

The finalists in the singles categories will pocket USD 68,000, while doubles finalists will receive USD 70,000. The losing semi-finalists across all categories will take home USD 28,000.

In individual events, USD 11,000 has been allocated for players who lose in the quarter-finals, while those who lose in the doubles category will receive USD 12,500.

For a Last 16 finish, the sum on offer in the singles sections is USD 6,000, while the pairings in the three doubles categories will pocket USD 6,500. A Last 32 exit fetches USD 2,000 across both singles and doubles categories.
