Indian badminton star PV Sindhu shared a candid reaction to LeBron James’ blockbuster move to the Philadelphia 76ers, saying that the 41-year-old NBA legend “rewrote the Eastern Conference tonight”.
Sindhu took to X to write a lengthy post shortly after James’ move was confirmed. Admitting to having been introduced to basketball by her husband, Venkata Datta Sai, Sindhu said that she never imagined James leaving the Los Angeles Lakers.
The two-time Olympic medallist also shared that her husband remained optimistic about the Lakers’ chance of challenging for the Western Conference title.
“My husband insists he’s fine. He’s not,” Sindhu wrote. “He also keeps reminding me Luka (Doncic) and (Walker) Kessler are going to be just fine. I don’t know… I don’t see them getting past OKC (Oklahoma City Thunder) or a healthy (San Antonio) Spurs team.”
The shuttler then revealed that her basketball loyalties now lie with Philadelphia following their capture of James. She also spoke about the 76ers’ new-look roster, claiming that it has genuine championship credentials.
“But I can’t lie, my basketball heart just followed LeBron to Philly. If (Joel) Embiid stays healthy, a core of LeBron, Embiid, (Tyrese) Maxey and Jaylen Brown is just ridiculous,” she wrote. “LeBron just rewrote the Eastern Conference overnight.”

LeBron James’ new chapter with Philadelphia 76ers
James entered NBA free agency following the expiry of his Lakers contract. After months of speculation about the veteran basketball star’s next and possibly final destination, James confirmed on Thursday that he would be signing a two-year deal with the 76ers worth eight million dollars.
The 76ers reportedly beat competition from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Miami Heat to secure the four-time MVP award winner. He will now team up with the current NBA MVP, Joel Embiid.
LeBron James’ move brought an end to an extremely successful eight-season association with the Lakers, having guided the franchise to the NBA championship in 2020. He also won the inaugural NBA Cup in 2023.
