Satwik-Chirag helped India continue its medal streak at the BWF World Championships 2025 with bronze.
India’s men’s doubles stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty once again came through when it mattered most, bagging a bronze medal at the ongoing BWF World Championships 2025 in Paris.
With the early exits of Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and the former world champion PV Sindhu, all eyes were on the world No. 9 pair to keep the country’s medal hopes alive and they didn’t disappoint.
In doing so, Satwik and Chirag joined an elite list of Indian badminton, becoming only the third Indians to win multiple medals at the BWF World Championships, joining legends Sindhu and Saina Nehwal.
The pair had previously won bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Tokyo, and their victory this year in Paris marks their second bronze medal at the event.
Sindhu remains India’s most successful player at the World Championships with five medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze) from 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Saina Nehwal has two medals to her name: a silver in 2015 and a bronze in 2017.
Satwik-Chirag’s campaign in Paris was full of fight and flair. They began with a straight-games win over Yang Po-han and Liu Kuang-Heng of Chinese Taipei, then edged past China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in a tense three-setter.

The high point came in the quarter-finals, where they outclassed Olympic bronze medallists Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia. With this, the Indians avenged their last year’s Paris Olympic defeat in just 43 minutes. That win sealed India’s place on the podium yet again.
The dream run however, ended in the semi-finals against China’s Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi, where the Indians went down 19-21, 21-18, 12-21 after a gritty 67-minute battle.
Despite missing out on the gold and the silver, the Indian top men’s doubles pair managed to keep India’s streak of winning at least one medal at every World Championships since 2011 stayed alive.
