India have won 11 medals in BWF World Junior Championships history.

After team India won the historic bronze medal at the Suhandinata Cup 2025 (BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships), the focus now shifts to the BWF World Junior Individual Championships 2025 (Eye Level Cup).

The tournament will commence on October 13 and conclude on October 19. It will take place at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, Assam, India.

The mixed team event concluded on Saturday, with China winning its record 15th title, defeating defending champions Indonesia 45-30, 45-44. India and Japan clinched the bronze medal.

This year, in spite of the usual 3Ă—21 format, a new format is being followed. The new format is 3Ă—15 points. The player who wins the two games of 15 points first will win the match.

Indian History at the BWF World Junior Championships 2025

India have won 11 medals in the history of the competition, with 1 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze. Aparna Popat become the first Indian to win a medal at the BWF World Junior Championships, clinching silver in 1996 in Girls Singles.

Saina Nehwal is the first Indian to become the World Junior Champion, clinching the title in 2008. She is also the first and only Indian to win two medals at the championships. She won silver in 2006 and gold in 2008.

Gurusaidutt became the first Indian to win a medal in the boys singles by winning bronze in 2008. This was followed by HS Prannoy and Sameer Verma’s bronze in 2010.

Siril Verma becomes the first Indian man to reach the final of the BWF World Junior Championships. He won silver in 2015. The other Indian medalists are Lakshya Sen (bronze, 2018), Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian (silver, 2022), and Ayush Shetty (bronze, 2023).

India returned empty-handed in 2024 and will be looking for a medal this time in the individual tournament. There are high hopes from the women’s singles sector, as Unnati and Tanvi will be looking to win the medal.
