This is a second bronze medal for Satwik-Chirag at BWF World Championships.
India’s campaign at the BWF World Championships 2025 ended in heartbreaking fashion as Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down 19-21, 21-18, 12-21 to Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi of China, in the men’s doubles semi-finals in Paris.
The world No. 9 Indian pair started strongly, racing to an 11-5 lead in the opening game with their trademark power game and aggressive net play. But the Chinese duo, seeded 11th, fought back with sharp drives and precise serves to steal the opener 21-19.
Satwik and Chirag showed their resilience in the second game, displaying the composure that earned them bronze in 2022. They clinched the game 21-18 to force a decider. However, the third game turned into a nightmare as Chen and Liu stormed to a 9-0 lead, leaving the Indians with too much ground to cover.
Despite saving multiple match points, the deficit was too big, and the Chinese pair sealed their spot in the final.
India’s medal streak continues at BWF World Championships
With this result, Satwik and Chirag secured their second World Championships bronze medal and kept India’s incredible streak alive. The country has won at least one medal at every BWF World Championships edition 2011.
Over these years, India has collected multiple bronze and silver medals, with the historic high point being PV Sindhu’s gold in 2019.

The 2025 edition ends with India claiming one bronze medal through Satwik-Chirag, reaffirming their status as one of the world’s elite men’s doubles pairs.
While the dream of a first final slipped away, their consistency on the biggest stage remains unmatched in Indian doubles history.
For Satwik and Chirag, attention now turns to the upcoming World Tour tournaments, where they will look to bounce back and add to their growing legacy.
