Ayush Shetty is the only Indian to win a BWF title this season.
India enjoyed a successful day at the ongoing Hong Kong Open 2025 as both Lakshya Sen and the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the finals with gritty semi-final victories on Saturday.
Lakshya Sen produced one of the finest performances of his season by toppling third seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in straight games. The 24-year-old Indian held his nerve in two intense deuce finishes, winning 23-21, 22-20.
The second game highlighted Lakshya’s composure as he trailed 17-20 before reeling off five straight points to deny Chou’s three match points and seal a memorable victory.
The result sends Lakshya into his first Super 500 final since the 2023 Canada Open, where he will now lock horns with China’s Li Shifeng, ranked No. 4 in the world. Lakshya leads their head-to-head 7-6 overall but has lost the last two encounters, most recently at the All England Open 2025.
Earlier, Satwik and Chirag broke their semi-final curse, entering their first final of the season after enduring five semi-final exits this year.
The world No. 9 Indian duo were sharp and disciplined against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Bing-Wei and Chen Cheng Kuan, closing out the contest 21-17, 21-15 in straight games.
Once again, their aggression at the net and well-timed smashes proved too hot for their opponents to handle.
The victory sets up a blockbuster final against China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, the Olympic silver medalists.
While the Indians trail 3-6 in the head-to-head, they take confidence from their recent triumph over the Chinese pair at the World Championships, where they prevailed in three tight games.
The clash promises to be an explosive encounter, given the long-standing rivalry between the two pairs.

For Lakshya, the semi-final win showcased his ability to dig deep under pressure and turn matches around against top-10 opponents. For Satwik and Chirag, it marked the long-awaited breakthrough after a string of near misses.
Sunday’s finals will see Lakshya aiming to add another title to his resume, while Satwik and Chirag look to end their 15-month title drought with a statement victory against their arch-rivals from China.
