India will qualify for the Sudirman Cup 2025 based on the rankings.
The Sudirman Cup is a biennial badminton mixed team tournament that will be held from April 27 to May 4, 2025. This will be the 19th edition of the tournament and will be played in Fenghuang Gymnasium, Xiamen, China. The inaugural edition of the tournament took place in 1989 where Indonesia pipped South Korea (3-2) to clinch the first-ever Sudirman Cup trophy.
So far only three nations have won the prestigious Sudirman Cup title. China are the most successful team with 13 titles followed by South Korea (4) and Indonesia (1).
Sixteen teams participate in the tournament, with each team getting there through various qualification pathways. The host and the defending champion secure automatic qualification for the tournament.
Meanwhile, continental championships also act as a qualifying tournament for the Sudirman Cup. There are four continental championships that are held and each tournament has different set of quotas. Here is the breakdown of the qualification process:
- Host Country (1)
- Defending Champions (1)
- Asia Mixed Team Championships (4)
- Oceana Mixed Team Championships (1)
- European Mixed Team Championships (4)
- Africa Mixed Team Championships (1)
- Pan America Mixed Team Championships (1)
- World Ranking (3)
If the host and defending champions are the same, the spot is reallocated to the World Rankings.
If a country has already qualified through other means and obtained the quota from the continental tournament, then that quota will go to the next best-ranked team that has not qualified from that continent.
