Top five title favourites in men's singles at All England Open 2026

Kunlavut Vitidsarn will be eyeing his first All England title in 2026.

The All England Open 2026 returns to the Utilita Arena Birmingham from March 3 to 8, with a prize pool of USD 1,450,000.

As one of the four Super 1000 events on the BWF World Tour calendar, the All England carries enormous prestige; its history stretching back to the world’s first open badminton competition in Guildford in 1898 makes it a crown that every player covets, often placing it above even a World Championships title in terms of legacy.

The men’s singles draw is stacked with talent following an exciting start to the 2026 season. Here are the five men most likely to be holding the trophy come Sunday.

Title favourites in men’s singles at All England Open 2026

5. Lin Chun-Yi

Taiwan’s Lin Chun-Yi is the tournament’s standout dark horse after a stunning 2026 debut. He won the India Open 2026 title, a Super 750 event, defeating Jonatan Christie in the final, announcing himself as a serious force on the world stage. His quick footwork, deceptive strokes, and ability to absorb pressure make him hard to read.

Though unseeded heading into All England, Lin has shown he can topple top-ranked opponents when he is in the zone. If he can maintain the form that delivered that India Open crown, he will be no stranger to the business end of proceedings in Birmingham.

4. Jonatan Christie

Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie is in fine form heading into the All-England. The fan favourite reached the final of the India Open 2026, ultimately losing to Lin Chun-Yi, but that deep run is proof of his current sharpness. His fluid movement, attacking instincts, and big-match experience make him dangerous.

Seeded fourth, Christie is drawn on the opposite side to Shi Yuqi, meaning he could face the top seed in the final rather than the semis. If he can replicate the level he showed in New Delhi, Christie could very well be lifting the trophy in Birmingham.

3. Anders Antonsen

Denmark’s Anders Antonsen is a perennial All England contender and arrives in Birmingham with renewed purpose. The Dane reached the semi-final at the Malaysia Open earlier in the season and has shown flashes of his very best badminton throughout the year’s early tournaments.

Antonsen hasn’t won a title in 2026 yet but reached five finals in the 2025 season. Seeded third, he could face Shi Yuqi in the last four, a clash that would be one of the tournament’s highlights. If his consistency holds, he is well capable of going all the way.

2. Shi Yuqi

The world No. 1 and top seed Shi Yuqi has been consistently excellent this season, reaching the Malaysia Open final before falling to Vitidsarn, where Shi retired in the second set.

The Chinese star is technically sound with remarkable consistency, and the All England is exactly the sort of high-pressure, fast-surface event where his precision shines.

Seeded first, Shi faces a tough potential semi-final route against Anders Antonsen or Li Shi Feng, though he remains the favourite to advance. A final against Vitidsarn would be a blockbuster contest. Shi’s mental composure and adaptability make him a genuine title threat.

1. Kunlavut Vitidsarn

Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn arrives as arguably the hottest player on the circuit right now. Fresh off a commanding title at the Malaysia Open 2026, defeating world No. 1 Shi Yuqi in the final, Vitidsarn has proven that his game translates to the biggest stages.

Seeded second in Birmingham, he enters with momentum and confidence that few can match.

His draw sets up a potential semi-final against Christo Popov, given the Frenchman’s recent form, though there are players like Jonatan Christie and Loh Kean Yew also in the queue.

Should he navigate that, a final showdown with Shi Yuqi or Anders Antonsen is entirely plausible. Vitidsarn’s aggressive net play and explosive rear-court game make him the man to beat.
