China is the most successful team in the Uber Cup history with 16 titles.
The Uber Cup, officially known as the World Women’s Team Championships, is a premier international badminton tournament featuring national women’s teams.
In 1950, renowned English player Betty Uber suggested the idea of establishing a women’s badminton tournament similar to the men’s competition, which led to the inauguration of the Uber Cup in 1957. The tournament received its name from her.
With 16 titles won since the tournament’s commencement, China has dominated the Uber Cup. In addition, it also has been the runner-up on four occasions. Japan occupies the second position in the list of most successful nations at the tournament with 6 titles.
Indonesia and the United States have clinched three titles each at the Uber Cup, but the former leads the tally with eight runner-up finishes. Initially, the USA was a powerhouse in the event until 1978, winning the first three editions in 1957, 1960, and 1963, finishing as the runner-up in 1966, and a semi-finalist in 1978.
